Notes and thoughts on Rev. Laura B. Viau’s message July 13, 2014

Psalm 121:2

As people of faith, we are a lot like plants. When we are firmly planted with a strong root system, we are able to grow tall and strong, and be productive in the way we were designed. God’s lavish love and generosity allows us to be “Rooted and Grounded, Growing and Going.”

The amazing love of God is something that is not always easy for us to understand. Yet we are sustained and supported by that love, even when we doubt it, or reject it.

We are sinful people and we live in a broken world. That gets in the way of understanding how Christ loves us. But God’s love is always consistent and never failing.

Throughout history, in the midst of chaos and calamity, when the people cried out, God was there. God brought joy in the midst of chaos, hope in the midst of darkness.

God’s love is high enough, wide enough, deep enough, and long enough to reach us all. Even though we stray, God is with us. It doesn’t matter if your pain is of your own making or caused by something out of your control, God is with us.

God calls us to grow. He makes us want to be better people, and He makes us want to make the world better. We need to spend time doing things that will help us become rooted and grounded in God’s love, so we can be a voice of hope and truth.
